#67 limestone is a clean, crushed stone blend made up of angular limestone pieces—typically around ¾ inch down to fine dust. That “mix of sizes” is the magic: the larger stone gives strength, while the smaller chips and fines lock everything together when compacted, creating a tight, durable base that holds up under weight and weather.
What It Looks Like
- Light gray to gray-white stone (color can vary slightly by quarry)
- Angular edges (not rounded like river rock)
- A balanced mix of stone + smaller particles for better compaction
Why People Love #67
- Compacts well and “sets up” firm
- Strong load-bearing base for vehicles and equipment
- Drains better than pure fines while still locking together
- Versatile enough for driveways, pads, and general construction
Common Uses For #67 Limestone
Driveways & Parking Areas
A go-to material for:
- New driveway builds
- Topping off and reshaping existing driveways
- Parking pull-offs, lots, and access lanes
When graded and compacted, it forms a solid, stable surface that handles everyday traffic.
Base Material Under Concrete, Asphalt, And Pavers
#67 is widely used as a base layer beneath:
- Concrete slabs (garages, sheds, patios)
- Asphalt paving
- Paver patios, walkways, and retaining wall bases
It helps prevent shifting and settling by creating a uniform, compacted foundation.
Equipment Pads & Building Sites
Perfect for stabilizing areas that need to support weight, such as:
- Shed and pole-barn pads
- Generator or propane tank pads
- Shipping container pads
- Jobsite access and staging areas
Drainage Support (When Paired Correctly)
While not as “open” as larger clean stone, #67 can still work in many drainage applications—especially when:
- Used as a compactable base near downspout extensions
- Installed with proper grade to move water away
For heavy drainage projects (French drains), many people step up to cleaner, larger stone—but #67 is still useful in plenty of practical setups.
Rural & Farm Use
- Lane and field access improvements
- Mud control near gates and traffic areas
- Leveling and stabilizing barn approaches
Pro Tips (So It Performs Best)
- Depth matters: Light-duty areas often do well with a few inches; heavy traffic or soft ground may need more build-up.
- Compact it: A plate compactor or roller makes a huge difference—this is where #67 really shines.
- Grade for water: Even great stone can fail if water sits on it. A slight crown or slope helps longevity.
